Bigger Bread: the online home of Andrew Chaikin
WELCOME!

A big-mouthed cartoon creature
Hi, Andrew Chaikin here. Welcome to my personal site. Unfortunately, I no longer have a personal life -- it's been taken over by someone named Kid Beyond. So head over to his site for all the latest news on him -- but feel free to sift through the ruins of my former life here.

HEAR ME ON GUITAR HERO

November 17, 2005

Guitar Hero, the new video game released this week by Red Octane / Harmonix, has been getting incredible reviews and selling out across the country.

The game comes with a scaled-down guitar controller (five buttons on the neck, a strummy thing on the body) that you plug into your PS2. Choose from a list of rock classics, and suddenly your onscreen character is onstage shredding with the band in front of huge crowds. Your score is based on how well you hit the right notes at the right time, like in Dance Dance Revolution.

They licensed 30 cool songs for the game (Iron Man, More Than a Feeling, Cochise, I Wanna Be Sedated, etc.), but since they're not allowed to use the actual recordings, they record new versions in the studio -- which sound exactly like the originals. So they need singers to sound exactly like the original ones.

Singers like me. You can go to the Guitar Hero site to hear me take on Franz Ferdinand ("Take Me Out"), David Bowie ("Ziggy Stardust"), Eric Clapton ("Crossroads"), and Queens of the Stone Age ("No One Knows").

I'm also on the new Karaoke Revolution Party -- where you sing instead of play guitar -- doing Tears for Fears ("Everybody Wants to Rule the World"), Neil Diamond ("Sweet Caroline"), and A-ha ("Take On Me").

And if you're like really into this, I'm also on Karaoke Revolution 3, doing Simple Minds ("Don't You Forget About Me"), B-52's ("Love Shack"), Switchfoot ("Meant To Live"), Frank Sinatra ("New York New York"), Good Charlotte ("Hold On"), the Beatles ("Twist and Shout"), and David Bowie again ("Under Pressure"). On Karaoke Revolution 2, I did Elvis ("Heartbreak Hotel"), The Darkness ("I Believe in a Thing Called Love"), Three Days Grace ("I Hate Everything About You"), Kiss ("Rock and Roll All Night"), and Steve Miller ("The Joker").

NO BURN FOR ME THIS YEAR

August 25, 2005

To all y'all who have emailed: Alas, I won't be on at Burning Man this year. Family obligations are taking me far, far away from the playa. Sigh. Rage on in my absence...

BACK FROM LA

August 21, 2005

Back from 10 hard-workin' days in LA, in the studio with producer Gabriel Mann. Two songs in the can -- Wandering Star and Deep Inside. They sound pretty tasty. I think you'll like 'em. More to come.

ON THE PLATE LATELY

July 18, 2005

What's cooking in the recent past, present and future:
  • Just completed a huge, many-month voiceover job, as the main male voice for The Sims 2 for Xbox, PS2 and GameCube, scheduled to be released this fall.

  • I'm playing the Fillmore for the first time! Come represent.

  • I was in LA working with producer-artist-remixer-DJ-allaround-cool-dude BT, doing a track (for his next album) which will be composed entirely of Kid Beyond speaking, singing, beatboxing, and so on -- all chopped up in the fiendish mind and fiendish machines of BT.

  • In August I'm heading down to LA again to start recording my first solo CD, with producer Gabriel Mann.
So, you could say I've been busy.

YOU GUYS ROCK

April 4, 2005

I want to thank all you folks who spread the word to their TX peeps about my Austin debut. About 110 people showed up at Habana Calle 6, all of whom were there because someone had sent them an email, posted on the Burner list or Tribe.net, or blogged, saying, "You gotta see this dude."

It made for a very sweet vibe. I can't thank you guys enough. Austin TX: I may be back in a few months. I'll keep you posted.
